The first lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has called on Corps members deployed to the State to join hands in the campaign against drug abuse, and sexual and gender base violence which has assumed an alarming increase in society.

The Wife of the Governor who made the call during her visit to the Batch B Stream 1 Corps members at the National Youth Service Corps camp, Iyana Ipaja, area of Lagos State said her office took up the project tagged, "War Against Drug Abuse, Sexual And Gender Base Violence" in Lagos State to amplify public awareness about the dangers of hard substances and other obnoxious practices that constitutes SGBV, in addition to providing assistance and protective care for victims and ensuring that they get adequate justice.


Dr. Mrs. Sanwo-Olu also charged the Corps members to take the one year mandatory national service seriously towards making positive impact for the growth of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole, and noted that the NYSC scheme has fostered youth engagement and sustained the intention of the initiators of the idea who believed in a united Nigeria despite the difference in language, culture and religion.

She seized the opportunity to enlighten them about the different programmes and interventions by her office aimed towards improving the quality of life of the residents, and commended their resilience and patriotic spirit in serving the nation, following laid down rules and regulations guiding the orientation programme.

Earlier in her remarks, the Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa appreciated the Lagos first lady for the visit, describing it as a source of inspiration and motivation to the Corps members serving their fatherland.

However, She appealed for more government support in providing adequate facility in the camp,
"...we are not without challenges. Limited chairs for corps members during lectures and other camp activities, remains area where we seek intervention as we remain hopeful that the construction work at the proposed NYSC permanent Orientation camp at Agbowa in Ikorodu, Lagos would commence soon to resolve the accomodation constraints and the need for suitable orientation facilities"

"It is on this premise, that we kindly request the first lady to support with donation of more chairs to ensure that these patriots are comfortably seated during lectures and camp activities"
