POLIO VIRUS DETECTED IN ABIA STATE, MRS. OTTI FLAGS OFF OUTBREAK RESPONSE POLIO CAMPAIGN

 The Wife of the Governor of Abia State Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti has advocated for more commitment in the campaign against the prevalence of polio virus in the State.

Mrs. Otti who stated this at Isialangwa South local government area headquarters, Omoba in this year's flag off ceremony of the campaign against Polio virus organized by the Abia State Primary health care development agency in collaboration with the Ministry of health said that her office will give full support to ensure total polio eradication in the State.

The Wife of the Governor disclosed that the present government in the State will work closely with communities to monitor the outbreak response campaign as a critical intervention that will help to contain further spread of the polio virus.

She commended the quick response of the State health workers when a case of polio outbreak was discovered at Isialangwa South local government area and called on stakeholders to join hands with the present government to fight against polio spread.


In her remark, the Commissioner for health Dr. Ngozi Okonkwo described the event as thoughtful towards elimination of polio in the State, pointing out that the present government has demonstrated its determination towards providing quality healthcare to all Abians.

She urged parents to ensure that they bring out their children and wards for vaccination, adding that the State has recorded remarkable achievement in polio eradication.

In his speech, the Mayor of Isialangwa South local government area, Chief Elelenta Nwabuisi urged parents to take seriously the campaign against polio by cooperating with the health workers that will be going round to vaccinate their children.

Also speaking, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Abia State Primary health care development agency, Mrs. Gladys Ike said that polio vaccination will provide the children healthy growth and prevent strange diseases, hence all communities in the State should throw their weight behind government's effort towards making the State polio free.
