A three Classroom block renovated by the Rotary Club of Umuahia North for the Inmates of St. Vincent De Paul Centre for the Mentally and Physically challenged, Umuafai Ndume in Umuahia North local government area of Abia State was recently commissioned by the District Governor Akan Eman.

The District Governor Rotary district 9142, Akan Eman while commissioning the project expressed delight with the completion of the project embarked by the Rotary Club of Umuahia North with support from the district grant, describing it as a very significant project that will have a positive effect on the psyche of the children and as well help in effective teaching and learning.

He applauded the intervention of the club to ensure the children no longer learn in classrooms with dusty broken floors, and encouraged other Rotary Clubs in the district not only to contribute to the Rotary foundation, but also maximize the opportunity of assessing grants from the foundation for tangible community projects.

      Club President Jonathan Ibiloye 

Earlier in his remark, the President of the Rotary Club of Umuahia North Rotarian Jonathan Ibiloye said his club saw the need to embark on the project after carrying out a needs assessment in the school, noting that over 1.5 million children  are out of school and more reason attention should be given to supporting basic education and literacy. 

He revealed that this is the first project with district grant executed by the Rotary Club of Umuahia North through the instrumentality of the immediate past District Governor Grace Okaro who gave it her approval,  and thanked members of his club for actively participating in the hands-on project.

The Immediate Past District Governor Grace Okaro also commended the Rotary Club of Umuahia North for the judicious use of the district grant, stating that only 13 clubs applied for the district grant last Rotary year and further said that the school have the signature of Rotary.

Responding, the Coordinator of St. Vincent De Paul Centre for the mentally and physically challenged Rev. Sister Gertrude Ukanwoko expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Umuahia North for their speedy intervention and prayed God to continue to bless them.

The project involved repainting of the three Classroom block and tiling of the floors. 

The commissioning of the project attracted the presence of the Assistant Governor zone 6 Rotarian Kalu Uchenna Martins, Assistant Governor zone 7 Rotarian Ugochukwu Ajawara, Assistant Governor EarlyAct Rotarian Chinedu Brown and  the immediate past District Secretary Rotarian Ugochukwu Ajawara.
