The Nigeria Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu has been suspended on the order of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following series of corruption allegation.

In a statement released on Monday 8th January, 2024 by the Spokesperson of the President, Ajuri Ngalale, the suspension of Betta Edu is with immediate effect.

It further directs the Chairman of the economic and financial crimes commission(EFCC) to carry out a thorough investigation to unearth all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

It was alleged that a whooping sum of 585.189 million Naira grant meant allocated to the Ministry for the Vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun and Lagos States was paid into a private bank account.
